Explorers CU Donates $1,000 to Feeding South Dakota

Explorers Credit Union hosted a Virtual Grand Opening for their new Tea, South Dakota Branch on Wednesday, July 8, 2020.

The new Tea Branch officially opened their drive up services on April 9, 2020. “We anticipated a grand opening as soon as all Explorers completed their task of staying home to protect our community. As time went on, we knew we wanted to celebrate our new location while adhering to CDC and social distancing guidelines. With so many summer gatherings canceling, we wanted to bring entertainment as well as give back to the communities we serve,” stated Nikki Doherty, Explorers CU Marketing Director. “We saw the work Feeding South Dakota has done throughout their inception and the Virtual Grand Opening ideas started to form,” Doherty continued.

Explorers Credit Union hosted three LIVE broadcasts throughout the day on Wednesday, July 8. Beginning at Noon, the musical duo of Six Feet Over performed a variety of popular songs as well as played requested songs from our online audience. At 2:00 PM, our second LIVE broadcast featured an online magic show performed by Travis Nye.

The final LIVE broadcast changed locations to Squealer’s Smoke Shack, Tea, SD, to visit their new digs as well as learn a few tips and tricks for barbecue season. Through the day, for every like or comment during our broadcasts, Explorers Credit Union donated $1 to Feeding South Dakota. At the end of our Virtual Grand Opening, Explorers Credit Union presented a check in the amount of $1,000 to Feeding South Dakota. This amount will provide 3,000 meals to South Dakota families.

“We are grateful to have been included in the virtual grand opening festivities for Explorers Credit Union in Tea. In times like these, we’re blessed for the support of our work to ensure those who are facing challenging times continue to have access to food,”stated Matt Gassen, Feeding South Dakota CEO.

Each Live broadcast was recorded and can be found on the Explorers CU Facebook page.
