Pierre, SD – This important advocacy event brings financial professionals from across South Dakota together to stay informed on state and federal legislation, engage directly with lawmakers, and help shape policies that impact our members, communities, and local economies.
Representing Explorers Credit Union are April Tompkins, CEO, and DeeDee Wilking, Member Experience Manager & BSA Officer (JD, CBSAP). Their participation reflects our commitment to staying engaged, informed, and actively involved in conversations that influence the financial well-being of the communities we serve.
At Explorers, advocacy goes beyond showing up – it’s about understanding how legislation may impact our members today and in the future. By participating in Legislative Day, our team helps ensure we’re keeping a pulse on key issues, lending a voice to real-world member experiences, and staying proactive in conversations that affect access, fairness, and opportunity in financial services.
DeeDee Wilking, Member Experience Manager & BSA Officer, added,
“I was excited to take part in State Legislative Day, bringing credit union professionals together from across South Dakota to advocate directly for our members with elected representatives. It’s important that we give our members a strong voice, ensuring we help shape the legislative landscape that impacts our communities every day. I’m grateful for the dedication our elected officials bring to their roles and appreciative of the strong lobbying efforts provided by the Dakota Credit Union Association.”
Throughout the day, attendees participate in Capitol Hill visits, legislative discussions, and conversations with state leaders focused on economic development and the future of financial services in South Dakota. From observing committee hearings to building meaningful relationships with policymakers, Legislative Day is all about having a voice and making an impact.
We’re proud of April and DeeDee for stepping up, showing up, and representing Explorers with professionalism, leadership, and heart. Advocacy matters and so does being at the table when decisions are made.
Thank you for living out our commitment to involvement, leadership, and community.
