Explorers Helps Kick Off Springfield’s 4th with a Bang at the Firecracker 5K

On the morning of July 4th, the streets of Springfield, South Dakota, were filled with energy, red-white-and-blue spirit, and the sound of running shoes hitting the pavement. The 11th Annual Springfield Firecracker 5K brought together 125 participants to celebrate Independence Day with a fun and meaningful community tradition.

Explorers Credit Union was proud to help sponsor this event, which supports important causes including the Bon Homme Cancer Fund, the Springfield Veteran’s Memorial Committee, and the Springfield Chamber 4th of July Fireworks Display. The race route showcased the best of Springfield—winding through town, over the scenic bike trail, and alongside the Missouri River—before finishing near 9th and College Street.

A special thank you goes to our very own Springfield team member, Shannon Wiebenga, who serves as a volunteer with the Bon Homme Running Club. Shannon represented Explorers with heart, handing out cooling towels at the finish line and making sure participants felt celebrated for their efforts.

Events like the Firecracker 5K are a reminder of why we believe in community, connection, and celebrating life’s journeys together. Thank you to everyone who joined in, volunteered, and supported this tradition—we can’t wait to lace up again next year!
